If you look around the vitamin department of any drugstore or big box store, you’ll realize that we’ve really gotten serious about wellness. Nowadays, there are vitamins for everything. We have vitamins to help us sleep, vitamins to keep our joints as well-oiled as a happy Tinman, and even vitamins to make our stomachs feel better.
Unsurprisingly, we can also buy vitamins for beauty. These multivitamins, usually billed as “hair, skin, and nails” vitamins, pack a lot of goodness in a little bottle. The exact ingredients can vary by manufacturer, but the usual suspects include biotin, zinc, B vitamins, and other vitamins like A and C. Today, manufacturers are adding even more ingredients to make their specific products stand out. No extra ingredients are perhaps more popular than oils. Argan oil is the most popular, but you may also oils like coconut or borage.
These multivitamins aren’t the only supplements you can use for stronger, longer hair. Single ingredient supplements are also gaining in popularity. These supplements include keratin, which can be handy if you don’t always eat as well as you should, and fulvic acid. The latter ingredient not only aids your cells in full nutrient absorption but also helps rid your body of nasty elements that can keep your hair from growing.
These supplements, whether multivitamins or single ingredient, now also come in a variety of forms. So if you have trouble taking pills, don’t fret. There are plenty of capsule supplements available, but you can find healthy hair vitamins in gummies, chews, and even liquid form.
Of course, as with your general health, the best way to get the nutrients you need is to eat a healthy diet. For hair health, that means lots of leafy greens and lean proteins. Fish rich in omega-3 fatty acids, like tuna, salmon, and mackerel, are a particularly good choice. Once you’ve got your diet in check, then consider adding supplements.
