Sleep your way to more hair, literally. When you sleep, your body regulates your hormones and balances out hair loss-promoting hormones like cortisol. In contrast, lack of sleep can cause unhealthy hormone spikes and chronically high levels of cortisol, which can promote the loss of hair.
Unfortunately, 30 per cent of adults struggle with insomnia, according to the American Sleep Association. If you want healthier hair and a healthier scalp but have trouble sleeping, try these strange (yet effective) sleep strategies.
1. Take Your Clothes Off (But Keep Your Socks On)
Sleeping with less clothes and kicking off the blanket lowers your body’s temperature and a lower body temperature speeds up how quickly you fall asleep.
But before taking off EVERYTHING, keep your socks on. Blood vessel dilation in your feet triggers a sleep sensation in your mind, and wearing socks helps to do exactly that.
2. Stay Up
The more you will yourself to stay awake and keep your eyes open, the more your mind will want to disobey your commands. In essence, you’re tricking your brain into doing exactly what you want while pretending you want to stay awake. If you’re having trouble falling asleep, get out of bed and do something that’s calm, relaxed but awake. And don’t go back to bed until you literally are having trouble keeping your eyes open.
3. Eat a Banana
Bananas are high in magnesium, a mineral that promotes relaxation and rest. Eat it with a spoonful of honey which stabilizes your blood sugar so you stay asleep longer.
