zinc is important for hair growth

As most dermatologists will tell you, zinc is important for hair growth. This mineral also does wonders for your skin and your nails. Research shows that women can especially benefit from eating food that’s rich in zinc and taking zinc-based supplements.

But why is it so? Why do experts claim that zinc is important for hair growth?

How Lack of Zinc Affects Your Hair

Zinc has the most impact on your hair follicles. They are made up of proteins, and zinc helps maintain their structure. Furthermore, zinc also helps establish balance inside the dermal cells in the follicle. On top of this, this mineral regulates the production of hormones, which are integral to healthy hair growth.

We all lose a few dozen strands of hair every day, and it’s nothing to worry about. But if the follicles of your hair aren’t healthy, your hair can’t be strong, either. As a result, you may start losing more hair than is normal. What’s more, unhealthy follicles can’t grow new hair, which means that the hair loss could be permanent.

hat Foods Should You Eat?

Seeing as zinc is important for hair growth, you need a steady diet of foods that serve as natural sources of this mineral. Here are some you might want to add to your diet to prevent hair loss.

Beans – One cup of cooked beans gives you 15 percent of the recommended daily intake of zinc.
Oysters – Only three cooked oysters have enough zinc to last you a full day.
Cashew nuts – A single cup will give you half of your daily supply of this mineral.
Chicken – One cooked piece of chicken accounts for 15 percent of the daily amount of zinc your body needs.
